Supporting Gaza’s Mental Health Providers: Building Trauma-Informed Care in a Time of Crisis

For decades, the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP) has served as the region’s leading provider of psychological care. Today, their work is more critical than ever. The unrelenting conflict has left no one untouched — the psychological wounds are deep, pervasive, and generational.

Through the South-South Medical Alliance (SSMA), clinicians from seven countries have come together to deliver a trauma-informed care training program for GCMHP psychologists and mental health workers. This initiative equips local providers with practical tools to manage trauma while caring for their patients — and themselves — amid the ongoing crisis.

After eight months of preparation and collaboration, the first cohort has launched. Despite intermittent internet, unstable power, and the reality of teaching in a war zone, the commitment of Gaza’s mental health professionals has been unwavering. Their resilience is a reminder that even in the darkest circumstances, healing begins with knowledge and connection.

Delivering education under these conditions, however, comes at a cost. Reliable internet, safe spaces for learning, and teaching infrastructure are all limited and expensive. To sustain and expand this training, SSMA is raising funds to continue supporting Gaza’s frontline mental health providers.

If this work resonates with you, we invite you to contribute to the Trauma-Informed Care Training Fund. Every donation directly supports the clinicians helping an entire community navigate unimaginable trauma. Click the link below:
